Welcome to the Power Macintosh demo applications, version 2.0.
This CD contains a variety of demonstration applications for you to try. Some are 680x0 applications optimized for Power Macintosh, others are Power Macintosh native applications. Because they are demos, they have some features disabled.
This document describes how to run these demos. It also contains the CD-ROM software end-user license, information on preventing software piracy, and acknowledgement of those that helped make this CD.
EXPLORING THE POWER MACINTOSH DEMOS
There are three ways to run these demos. Choose the method you prefer.
• Double-click the Demo Applications! icon. This brings up a series of pages containing buttons for each demo. Click the individual buttons to launch the demos directly. If the demo has special instructions, a document button appears next to the demo button.
Click the arrow buttons in the bottom corners of the window to move from page to page. You can also navigate using the letter keys on your keyboard. For example, press ‘w’ on your keyboard to move to the page containing demos whose titles begin with a ‘w’.
Many of the demos require that you change the color mode in which you are running. To do this, select Monitors from the Control Panel in the Apple Menu and choose the appropriate color mode.
• Open the Power Macintosh Demo Applications folder. This folder contains a separate folder for each demo. You can launch a demo from its folder. You may see additional documentation and sample documents inside the demo folders—these are available only when you open the folders, but not when you click the Demo Applications! icon as described above.
• Copy the Power Macintosh Demo Applications directly to your hard disk. Demos (and other programs) run more quickly from your hard disk than from the CD-ROM drive. You can copy the demos onto your hard disk from the Demo Applications folder. The demos also run faster if you start up your computer from your hard disk rather than from the Apple Macintosh CD.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
This CD-ROM disk is designed to run on a Power Macintosh system only, not on a 680x0 Macintosh system. It requires a minimum of 8MB of RAM.
If you are using At Ease on your hard disk, please turn it off: Pull down the Apple menu located in the upper left hand corner of your screen and select Control Panels. Double-click the At Ease control panel and follow the instructions.
SPECIAL NOTES
Some demos on the CD will be copied to your hard disk when you run them. Refer to the demos’ Read Me files to see which demos are copied to your disk.
Some demos work better if you assign more memory (RAM) to them. There are three ways to increase the RAM assigned to a program:
• Start up from this CD. Pull down the Apple menu located in the upper left hand corner of your screen and select Control Panels. Double-click the Startup Disk control panel. Select this CD as the startup disk. Then restart your computer. This CD will provide enough RAM for most demos. However, some demos may run more slowly with the CD selected as the startup disk.
• Turn on virtual memory. Pull down the Apple menu located in the upper left hand corner of your screen and select Control Panels. Double-click the Memory control panel. Turn virtual memory on by clicking the On button in the Virtual Memory section of the control panel. Then restart your computer from the hard disk. Some demos may run more slowly with virtual memory turned on.
• Add more memory (RAM) to your computer. Although this option has a price, it has the best results.
If you have problems opening any of the Demo Application programs, follow these steps:
1. Choose Quit from the File menu.
2. Choose Shut Down the Special menu.
3. Remove the Apple Macintosh CD from the CD-ROM drive.
4. Restart your computer from your hard disk.
5. Insert the Apple Macintosh CD into the CD-ROM drive.
6. Follow the Demo Application instructions above.
TO QUIT
The demos on this disk will usually quit if you choose Quit from the File menu. You can also try pressing Command-Q on the keyboard. If this does not work, try Command-period.
TO EJECT CD-ROM DISK
If you have problems ejecting your CD-ROM disk, restart your computer while holding down the mouse button.

PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE ENCLOSED CD-ROM COMPACT DISC. BY USING THIS CD-ROM COMPACT DISC, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE, PROMPTLY RETURN THE UNUSED CD-ROM COMPACT DISC TO THE PLACE WHERE YOU OBTAINED IT.
1. License. This CD-ROM compact disk contains proprietary, copyrighted application, demonstration, and/or system software (the “Software”) and related documentation and other materials (the “Materials”) owned by Apple and/or licensed to Apple by Apple’s Licensor(s). The Software and Materials are licensed to you by Apple and/or Apple’s Licensor(s). You own the compact disc on which the Software is recorded but Apple, or Apple’s Licensor(s), retain title to the Software and Materials. This License allows you to use the Software and Materials on a single Apple computer only in conjunction with the authorized use of the CD-ROM compact disc. You are expressly prohibited from copying, duplicating, reproducing, or otherwise transferring the Software and Materials for any other purpose whatsoever. This License is personal to you and does not constitute a site license. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH AND ADHERE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS LICENSE COULD SUBJECT YOU TO LEGAL ACTION BY APPLE AND/OR APPLE’S LICENSOR(S).
2. Restrictions. The Software and Materials contain copyrighted material, trade secrets and other proprietary material and in order to protect them you may not decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble or otherwise reduce the Software to a human-perceivable form. You may not modify, network, rent, lease, loan, sell, distribute, or create derivative works based upon, the Software and Materials in whole or in part. You may not electronically transfer the Software and Materials from one computer to another over a network.
3. Termination. This License is effective until terminated. You may terminate this License at any time by destroying the CD-ROM compact disc, the Software and Materials and all copies thereof. This License will terminate immediately without notice from Apple and/or Apple’s Licensor(s) if you fail to comply with any provision of this License. Upon termination you must destroy the CD-ROM compact disc and the Software and Materials.
4. Export Law Assurances. You agree and certify that neither the CD-ROM compact disc, the Software, Materials, copyrighted material, trade secrets and other proprietary material, nor any other technical data included on the CD-ROM compact disc, nor the direct product thereof, will be exported outside the United States except as authorized in advance by Apple, in writing, and as permitted by the laws and regulations of the United States.
5. Government End Users. (a) If this CD-ROM compact disc is acquired by or on behalf of a unit or agency of the United States Government this provision applies. The Software and Materials included in this CD-ROM compact disc and: (i) were developed at private expense, and no part of it was developed with government funds; (ii) are trade secrets of Apple and/or of Apple’s Licensor(s), for all purposes of the Freedom of Information Act; (iii) is “commercial computer software” subject to limited utilization as provided in the contract between the vendor and the governmental entity; and (iv) in all respects is proprietary data belonging solely to Apple and/or to Apple’s Licensor(s).
(b) For units of the Department of Defense (DOD), this CD-ROM compact disc and Software and Materials is sold only with “Restricted Rights” as that term is defined in the DOD Supplement to the Federal Acquisition Regulations (“DFARS”) 52.227-7013 (c) (1) (ii) and use, duplication or disclosure is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c) (1) (ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS 52.227-7013. (c) If this CD-ROM compact disc and Software and Materials were acquired under a GSA Schedule, the Government has agreed: (i) to refrain from changing or removing any insignia or lettering from the Software and Materials that is provided or from producing copies thereof (except one copy for backup purposes); (ii) title to and ownership of this Software and Materials and any reproductions thereof shall remain with Apple and/or Apple’s Licensors; (iii) use of this Software and Materials shall be limited to the facility for which it is acquired; and (iv) if use of the Software and Materials is discontinued at the installation specified in the purchase/delivery order and the Government desires to use it at another location, it may do so by giving prior written notice to Apple, specifying the type of computer and new location site.
(d) Government personnel using this CD-ROM compact disc and Software and Materials, other than under a DOD contract or GSA Schedule, are hereby on notice that use of this CD-ROM compact disc and Software and Materials is subject to restrictions which are the same as, or similar to, those specified above.
6. Limited Warranty on Media. Apple warrants the CD-ROM compact disc on which the Software is recorded to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase as evidenced by a copy of the receipt. Apple’s entire liability and your exclusive remedy will be replacement of the disc not meeting Apple’s limited warranty and which is returned to Apple or an Apple authorized representative with a copy of the receipt or other proof of authorized possession. Apple will have no responsibility to replace a disc damaged by accident, abuse or misapplication.
ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES ON THE CD-ROM COMPACT DISC, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO NINETY (90) DAYS FROM THE DATE OF DELIVERY. THIS WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, AND YOU MAY ALSO HAVE OTHER RIGHTS WHICH VARY FROM STATE TO STATE.

APPLE AND APPLE’S LICENSOR(S) DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE FUNCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OR THAT THE OPERATION OF THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS IN THE SOFTWARE AND/OR THE MATERIALS WILL BE CORRECTED. In no event shall Apple’s or Apple’s Licensor(s)’ total liability to you for all damages, losses, and causes of action (whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise) exceed the amount paid by you for the CD-ROM compact disc.
9. Controlling Law and Severability. This License shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California. If for any reason a court of competent jurisdiction finds any provision of this License, or portion thereof, to be unenforceable, that provision of the License shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible so as to effect the intent of the parties, and the remainder of this License shall continue in full force and effect.
10. Complete Agreement. This License constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the use of the Software and Materials, and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous understandings or agreements, written or oral, regarding such subject matter.
